M&A Activity on the Rise, Exceeding $2.2 Trillion

For the first year since 2007, merger and acquisition activity in 2010 was on the rise. According to Thomson Reuters, M&A activity has exceeded $2.2 trillion globally in '10. Kevin M. Short, Managing Partner and CEO of Clayton Capital Partners, said "Not only has deal activity increased, the quality of deals has improved significantly." According to Thomson Reuters, the sectors leading the charge in mid-market activity focusing on the Americas include energy and power, materials, industrials and high technology. As far as 2011 looks, Short believes an additional surge in activity could take place, given lawmaker's recent decisions, confidence in the market and significant amounts of cash sitting on the sidelines.
